Have a 91 c I want a ss into it. Can and how? Ill replace anything, not losing the body. Shawk8 answered about a year ago. KenF answered about a year ago. Your best bet for a how to is on a Chevy truck forum that has a performance section.
This seems like it would be a common enough swap for the hot rod crowd. You can do this swap with all factory parts since the was an optional engine for your truck. Have a 91 c sport with a Want to swap for a ss. Can this and how can this be done? Not losing body.Free fly ride neon shadow dragon

If it is a 93 or 94, I would try the computer and see if things work OK when the AC comes on increase idle speed particularly If the computer is from a year prior to 93 you will have tranny control issues if an automatic. Even the dash wiring is different. I have never taken a harness out of one of these trucks so I am not sure but I think that they have all the wiring in one bundle for the engine side and another for the inside.
Many times the wiring harness has all the common stuff in it even though some of the options may not be installed. If you remove the dash to where most of the wiring is accessible, it probably won't be that hard to change it all. In any event, it would certainly limit the problems that you are bound to have trying to modify the 94 wiring. And, it'll probably work! Its time to start tearin it apart. Is there anyplace i can find the wiring diagrams for both trucks? All Questions jowoonsocket about a year ago can I switch my k motor and tranny for a I bought a 96 k 4x4 with a bad tranny and now the head gasket went, I don't feel like repairing it has but I cant find a decent I found a 97 with a rotted frame but motor and tranny have If it's a go ahead and take the computer so it's programmed for one.
Use everything that goes with 97' engine too. The only reasone you would need to make any mods to the pcm or the wire harnss would be if you where going from a 4. The maf reading alone will be different, the fuel trim tables will be too lean. It will run, no doubt about that but it won't be right. Going v6 to v8 would be alittle more involved.
And switching from a to will be plug and play but I would advise the appropriate pcm to go with the motor Muddyblazer about a week ago Best Answer I've got a brand new long block what do I need to do to make it work in my truck I just bought a 98 chevy silverado 5. The swap went good and everything bolted up and plugged in without any problems. After i got everything bolted down, plugged in and fluids in it, it started no problem.
After driving it a week now, i believe the pcm has not learned the difference from the to the I hear it backfiring when im coasting and the motor cuts out and picks right back up randomly while driving. Im looking into having my pcm reprogrammed locally or putting the prom chip from the pcm in the 96 sierra in the pcm thats in the 98 and already programmed to my vin.
Will this actually work and if so do i need to do the crank variation relearn or any other modification or tuning to make it work? Rowefast answered 2 years ago. Jimlloyd36 answered 2 years ago. View Full Image. Truckin Magazine how to. The previous generation ''99 GM fullsize trucks and SUVs are excellent workhorses that put tons of miles under their bumpers without a whimper. However, the ci and ci small-block V-8 powerplants can definitely use a little help in the power department.Pso2 male cast outfits
For that reason, we're showing you how to swap an emissions-legal ci GM Performance Parts V-8 crate engine into your ''99 GM truck or SUV for a healthy increase in torque and horsepower. The pros at Scoggin-Dickey recommended this engine because it was designed to provide 'truck-usable' power-low rpm grunt with excellent efficiency-and will bolt into the truck just as a ci replacement engine.
The HTE engine uses a cast-iron engine block and heads and a forged-steel 3. The longer stroke crank combines with aluminum pistons in the traditional 4.
Chevy Fullsize Pickup - Big Repower
The dyno results make it clear this is a truck engine-with ratings of lb-ft of torque at 4, rpm and hp at 4, rpm. That kind of down-low power makes this engine ready for stump-pulling or hill-flattening, when needed. In fact, this grunt-daddy makes more than lb-ft of torque from 2, to 4, rpm. A Complex Job Made Easy How many times have you experienced this: Something that seems like it should be easy turns into a complete nightmare? Like removing a worn-out engine and reinstalling a new crate engine in your truck-sounds straightforward, right?
But we all know this process is filled with steps that must be completed in a certain sequence, using special tools, and little-known, but required, actions. In case you haven't already noticed, the patent-pending system is being showcased here in this summary story by nesting the Whaba icons in the photos to visually tell you where to work on the vehicle and what tools you'll need to do the work-before you've read a single word.
While the Dr. In this case, we asked an experienced mechanic friend, Gil Baker, if we could rent a two-post lift in his shop for a few days and ask him questions when we needed more understanding. He agreed and we're glad he did-getting on a lift makes this job go that much faster. You can do the engine swap in your own garage on jackstands, but the lift definitely speeds things up and reduces the backbreaking nature of this kind of work.
Baker was also a great resource to ask about special processes and had many of the special tools on hand that were called for in the Dr. Look for Part 2 of this story next month where we install, tune, and chassis-dyno test the GM Performance Parts HT E engine for maximum truck performance.
From The Driver Seat We were surprised how straightforward it was to upgrade to the ci engine and have enjoyed the new power levels. This is one of those swaps that is definitely worth the effort for the 'seat-of-the-pants' difference. While all of these stats sounds great, we can say from real-world experience that the HTE lives up to the billing. Whether unloaded or loaded with a lb, ft enclosed trailer tied onthis engine pulls like a hopped up big block-but without the heavy weight and horrible fuel mileage.
The engine does sound a little like a hot-rod engine at startup, which is OK with us. We're told the noise is attributed to the long stroke and big bore. Once up to temperature, the engine quieted down and performed without a hitch. Sources Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center.Help Remember Me? Home What's New? This widespread use means that complete engines can be found in wrecked vehicles in salvage yards from coast to coast. The power potential, efficiency, and availability of the engines makes them a natural selection for swaps, but there are some hurdles to overcome.
For example, the Gen IV small-block was ushered in with the LS2 and while the Gen III and Gen IV engines share a common foundation and offer a lot of parts interchangeability, the electronics, fuel systems, and emissions systems can vary from year to year and between applications. Thankfully, the Silverado that originally came with a 4.
Once the must-have OE parts were secured, we dressed up the 5. Now you should have the confidence to swap in some real power and slam the pedal to the floor. What about the transmission? The companies listed in the Source Box also make wiring harnesses that can help with late-model swaps.

Their overhead valve configuration makes them compact for their displacement compared to DOHC V-8 engines that have massive heads that can prove too wide for many applications.
